Since the early 70s, I have always loved to drink breakfast style teas with milk, no sugar. When I first came to Upton Tea in 1995 and started to discover the depth and variety of fine loose leaf tea, I found myself drawn to the teas I could drink plain - the refined Darjeelings, the spicy Oolongs, the clean greens and the delicate whites. I still enjoy a malty, rich Assam with milk for breakfast but then move on to lighter bodied teas for the rest of the day. I do love the taste of tea but it is the aroma that I find uplifting and inspiring!
I steeped this tea for 3 minutes in boiling point (212F) water, using double the amount of tea leaves as normal (2t per cup instead of 1t) to make iced tea. The aroma has a pronounced mintiness, which I found especially refreshing when iced. The flavor is rich and full-bodied with an interesting wintergreen note. Add a slice of lemon or some lemon balm leaves to your glass for a fabulous treat!
I steeped the dark chocolate colored leaf for 3 minutes in boiling point (212F) water. The glowing, dark-amber tea liquor has a rich aroma of fruits and chestnuts. I find the flavor, its richness bursting in my mouth, reminiscent of an Oolong tea in its nutty, almost woody quality. I also detected faint notes of fruit in the smooth cup. A delicious and unique second flush offering!
I steeped the leaves for 4 minutes in 190F water. As I sipped my first cup, I imagined the tea pickers threading their way through the fields at sunrise to pluck the leaves at the best time for optimal flavor. The aroma was quite vegetal at first, which then changed to a sweet floral fragrance. The flavor is silky smooth, very fresh, with pronounced floral notes and a hint of sweetness reminding me of a ripe pear. This is a very early spring harvest with a profusion of green leaf and downy tip.
This isn't a typical second flush Darjeeling tea as it is a special, super bold leaf production. I used 3 times as much tea leaves as I normally do (3t instead of 1t) and steeped for 3 minutes in boiling point (212F) water. The fragrant aroma is of fresh apricots. The flavor is smooth and delicate with notes of apricot, melon and a gentle, lingering floral nuance. Steeping it longer might strengthen the flavor notes, however, it will still taste more like a first flush than a second flush tea.
A white Darjeeling tea is always a special treat. I steeped the leaves for 4 minutes in 180F water. The tea liquor is the color of pale winter wheat, with a delicate aroma of sweet melon. The flavor is silky smooth with a clean taste, notes of melon and a sweetness like sugar cookie, which becomes more pronounced as it cools. This is the perfect cup of tea for slowing down and relaxing in your favorite spot.
The tea liquor is the most amazing spring green color, with a strong vegetal, seagrass aroma. My first sip filled my mouth with sweetness and an incredibly pronounced vegetal taste of the sea. As I sipped, I detected a light floral quality underneath all of that vegetalness. I enjoyed this tea much better when it cooled.
I steeped the large rolled leaf for 5 minutes in boiling point (212F) water. I found the toasty aroma comforting as I poured my first cup. The flavor is strong yet smooth with light nuances of cocoa thickness and toastiness. A fabulous value for an everyday tea!

This tea is picked in the early morning when the dew is still fresh on the leaf. From picking to cupping is approximately a 30-hour period of processing. I steeped the leaves for 4 minutes in boiling point (212F) water. The aroma is warm & inviting with a hint of citrus. The robust flavor reminds me of a smooth Assam, with light malty hints and nuances of warming spices. Steep it longer when adding milk and sweetener.
I steeped the large, spiral-shaped leaf pellets for 3 minutes in 190F water. I loved watching the leaves unfurl as it steeped. The pale jade tea liquor has a light floral fragrance with a very rich, buttery flavor. Notes of orchid gently dance across my tongue and linger into the finish. This tea is light yet richly flavored, all at the same time.
