Since the early 70s, I have always loved to drink breakfast style teas with milk, no sugar. When I first came to Upton Tea in 1995 and started to discover the depth and variety of fine loose leaf tea, I found myself drawn to the teas I could drink plain - the refined Darjeelings, the spicy Oolongs, the clean greens and the delicate whites. I still enjoy a rich black tea for breakfast most of the time and then move on to lighter bodied teas for the rest of the day. I do love the taste of tea but it is the aroma that I find uplifting and inspiring!
This tea has a gorgeous leaf - silver mixes with dark brown, like snippets of thread woven through the thin, wiry leaf. The dark amber-colored tea liquor smells of dark notes of chocolate and malt, which spill over into the flavor ,along with a bright lemon tang that lingers into the finish. This is a great eye-opening breakfast tea!
Silky smooth when steeped under 2 minutes, this Darjeeling has a toasty aroma with honey sweet hints. The rich flavor has notes of fruit, highlighted by a citrus-like brightness. A lovely sweetness greets you throughout, lingering long into the finish and becoming more pronounced as the tea cools. A truly satisfying cup of tea.
I steeped the dark chocolate colored leaf for 3 minutes in boiling point (212F) water. The glowing, dark-amber tea liquor has a rich aroma of fruits and chestnuts. I find the flavor, its richness bursting in my mouth, reminiscent of an Oolong tea in its nutty, almost woody quality. I also detected faint notes of fruit in the smooth cup. A delicious and unique second flush offering!
I steeped the leaves for 4 minutes in 190F water. As I sipped my first cup, I imagined the tea pickers threading their way through the fields at sunrise to pluck the leaves at the best time for optimal flavor. The aroma was quite vegetal at first, which then changed to a sweet floral fragrance. The flavor is silky smooth, very fresh, with pronounced floral notes and a hint of sweetness reminding me of a ripe pear. This is a very early spring harvest with a profusion of green leaf and downy tip.
A first flush Darjeeling is my favorite choice for a light, fresh, fruity/flowery cup of tea. With its aroma of fresh flowers and flavor notes of flowers and tropical fruit/banana, this selection is the quintessential early spring picking from Darjeeling. Yum!
The tea liquor is the most amazing spring green color, with a strong vegetal, seagrass aroma. My first sip filled my mouth with sweetness and an incredibly pronounced vegetal taste of the sea. As I sipped, I detected a light floral quality underneath all of that vegetalness. I enjoyed this tea much better when it cooled.
With its long, twisted leaf sets of a light olive green, this tea comes from the Mount Huang area in An Hui province. The aroma has a distinctive fresh floral note, like walking through a spring garden after it rains. The pale greenish hay-colored tea liquor is smooth and light with a harmonious blend of flavors - floral like lilacs, vegetal like fresh peas and a whiff of pipe tobacco in the finish.
This is my first choice for a wonderful afternoon refresher! I brew it for 3 minutes with 180 degree water. I love its clean, vegetal aroma and smooth, subtly sweet flavor. Just a hint of pungency in the aftertaste completes a perfect tea experience.
I love watching the pearls unfurl as they steep. They remind me of little sea creatures reaching their legs out of their shells. This is a great tea to enjoy in a teacup or bowl with an interesting pattern or texture on the inside because the liquor is so pale. The aroma is delicately floral and not overly "perfumey". The taste is sweet jasmine, smooth and subtle.
